Things have officially gone from bad to worse for rap star Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.
Former Kanye Employee Seeking Thousands in Damages
According to a Wednesday (April 8) report from TMZ, the College Dropout creator is facing legal trouble again. As one of his former employees is seeking nearly a million dollars. For “unpaid wages and other damages.”
Johnathan Monroe, a man who says he worked as a bodyguard for the rap star around 2021, says that he was never compensated for overtime hours worked.
Here’s a rundown of what Monroes is asking for, according to court docs obtained by the outlet:
$7,725 for unpaid overtime
$37,620 in lost wages
$500,000 in lost earnings
$100,000 for his pain and suffering
$100,000 in punitive damages.
Total damages round up to around $850,000.
One specific situation that Monroe references was when Kanye needed to gas up his Lamborghini, and he was tasked with doing it. Monroe claims that he asked the rap star for his credit card to pay for the gas. But instead of giving it to him, Ye just “walked away with no response.”
Per the report, Monroe says he tried to collect the money he was owed from West. But claims he was given the “run around.”
At the time of writing, Ye has not responded to the report from TMZ.
This is not the only controversy that the Yeezy creator is facing.
Ye was set to headline Wireless Festival in the United Kingdom this July. However, the decision was met with a lot of backlash. With the U.K. having such a large population of Jewish people, combined with the West’s past antisemitic remarks, the U.K. Government was forced to block West from entering the country. As opposed to just replacing Ye as the headline, Wireless Festival opted to cancel the show altogether.
