Kendrick Lamar just made rap history—again—and the timing couldn’t be more poetic.
Just days after Drake kicked off the rollout for his upcoming album ICEMAN, Kendrick’s biting diss “Not Like Us” has officially become eligible for diamond certification, the Recording Industry Association of America’s highest honor. That means the DJ Mustard-produced banger has now moved over 10 million units in the U.S., making it the fastest rap song of the decade to do so.
This milestone comes on the heels of another major win after Kendrick’s chart-topping compilation GNX broke the record for the longest-running No. 1 rap album in Billboard history, holding down the top spot for 22 consecutive weeks.
While Kendrick lets the music (and stats) speak for itself, Drake has opted to take another approach with his latest track “What Did I Miss?” On the song, Drizzy references Kendrick’s star-studded Pop Out concert in L.A., seemingly responding to those who’ve taken sides since their lyrical war exploded earlier this year.
“I saw bro went to Pop Out with them,” he raps. “It feels like nobody’s there until you start givin’ out two-tones / And nobody cares until they in front of your tombstone.”
The release has reignited buzz around their ongoing rivalry, with fans dissecting every bar for subliminals – Still, the numbers don’t lie.
Whether Drake’s ICEMAN will change the narrative remains to be seen.
