Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Performance Headlines List of Emmy Nominees

Kendrick Lamar continues to rack up the awards for his 2024 smash hit Not Like Us. After completing a clean sweep, and racking up five wins at the 2025 Grammy’s, the Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City creators may be in line to take home yet another prestigious award.

On July 15 the list of nominees was announced for the 2025 Emmy Awards.

Kendrick Lamar Headlines List of 2025 Emmy Noms

Among this year’s nominees was Kendrick Lamar, whose Super Bowl Halftime Show performance was nominated for He’s nominated for Outstanding Music Direction and Outstanding Variety Special (Live), per Pitchfork.

Following the announcement, fans went wild with their reactions on social media.

“UMG doing whatever they can to give him his final award before he gets exposed lmao,” one person said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“It must be tough for Kendrick haters man. Lol,” another user added.

There were several guests during Kendrick’s Super Bowl halftime performance. But the most notable guest was Serena Williams, who was dancing on the field during Kendrick’s set.

Williams has a connection to Lamar as they are both from Compton, California but she is also Drake’s ex. Many people criticized Serena’s appearance during Lamar’s performance as it was perceived as her being petty toward Drake.

However, during an interview with Time earlier this year, the tennis legend insisted her inclusion in the performance wasn’t meant as a diss to Drake. 

“Absolutely not,” she said. “I would never do that. And that was sad, that anyone would ever think that. I respect how they could. Obviously, I can see how someone would think that. But absolutely not. I have never had negative feelings towards him. We’ve known him for so many years.” 

Williams said joining the performance was about paying homage to her hometown, Compton, California, where Lamar is also from.
