R&B artist and rapper Kevin McCall got candid about the emotional and financial toll of his long-standing rift with Chris Brown. During a recent appearance on the Back on Figg podcast, the Grammy-nominated songwriter broke down in tears while discussing what he described as an unresolved financial dispute with his former collaborator.
McCall, who co-wrote and featured on Brown’s early 2010s hits “Deuces” and “Strip,” said he’s still owed $25,000 for four songs he penned for the singer. The pair’s relationship has been strained for over a decade, with public disputes dating back to their creative split in the mid-2010s.
On the October 20 episode, McCall became visibly emotional as he reflected on his current financial struggles, revealing that he’s been relying on government assistance to get by. “Why the fuck I got an EBT card and this n—a is at Breezy Bowl and made ninety-whatever-the-f—k million?” he said through tears. “That s—t ain’t fair, na!”
The moment quickly gained traction online, drawing sympathy from fans — and a response from another high-profile artist. Young Thug, who teamed up with Brown on their 2020 joint project Slime & B, offered to personally cover the alleged debt.
“Kevin McCall hit me my n—a, I’ll give u the 25k u need,” Thug wrote in an Instagram Story. “And I know CB would give it to u also bro — he a real one. N—s is busy sometimes brada.”
Chris Brown appeared to provide his response as well, though he certainly wasn’t in as giving a mood as Thugger. The singer shared a cryptic message on Instagram stories about “burnt bridges,” writing, “Remember this: You can’t walk across a burnt bridge. And you know what’s funnier than a troll? A broke one.”
The two artists’ creative partnership once produced some of Brown’s defining early 2010s work, but their fallout continues to linger — a reminder of how deeply personal and professional ties can intertwine in the music business.
