Kid Cudi has publicly addressed longtime claims from Jim Jones that Jones played a defining role in launching his career, making it clear he strongly disagrees.
On Friday (Jan. 23), Cudi took to Instagram Stories to respond after Jim Jones once again doubled down on the idea that people only know Cudi because of Jones’ remix of Day ‘n’ Night. Speaking directly to Jones, Cudi said the narrative is false and accused him of spreading misinformation, adding that the original version of the song was already a hit before any remix entered the picture.
Cudi emphasized that “Day ’n’ Night” had momentum and success on its own, urging Jones to stop retelling what he described as exaggerated stories. He also pointed to fan reactions online, noting that listeners have consistently pushed back against the claim.
Jim Jones has made similar statements over the years, including a 2022 appearance on DJ Superstar’s VIP Saturdays on SiriusXM and most recently during a Jan. 6 interview on The No Rap Cap Podcast, where he again asserted that his remix made the record—and Cudi—big in New York City.
While Jones continues to stand by his version of events, Cudi’s response makes his position clear: his rise wasn’t created by a remix, but by a record that was already resonating long before the debate ever started.
