Kevin Durant is widely regarded as one of the best players in NBA history. So when he was set to hit free agency, it set the league into a frenzy.
Fresh off two championships and two NBA Finals MVP awards in three seasons with the Golden State Warriors, Durant was highly coveted by other franchises. And one team that pulled out all of the stops to land him was the New York Knicks.
Knicks Used Wu-Tang Music Video For Durant Pitch
The Knicks employed the Wu-Tang Clan to be a part of their free agency pitch to the All-Star forward. They paid them to create a song for Durant. The video recently resurfaced online. Perhaps the most famed group member, Method Man, sports a custom #35 Durant Knicks jersey in the video, with other Wu-Tang members including RZA, Ghostface Killah, and Raekwon.
“Play for us. New York Knicks. Score for us. Hit buzzer shots for us. Do it for the C.R.E.A.M, do it for the team. Do it for the Wu-Tang,” he raps in the song.

During a recent appearance on Pablo Torre Finds Out, Method Man revealed that the entire process of shooting the pitch was more difficult than he expected. He also said the entire shoot took “four to five hours.”
However, the rapper says that even though the video was shot in harsh conditions, he and the other group members were glad to do it. Because of how badly they wanted KD to come to the Big Apple.
”We really wanted KD to come, and I knew that KD wanted to come to New York,” Method Man said. “He just wasn’t clear on where he wanted to go.”
Durant did eventually end up coming to New York. But it was to play for the Brooklyn Nets, not the New York Knicks. However, back in 2022, All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving revealed that the Knicks did have a “good chance” of landing them both during that free agency period.
“[The Knicks] had a good chance at getting us, you know, back in free agency. But we just felt like we wanted to build here and just make our mark on this franchise,” he said via SNY. “And you know, I don’t think we regret our decision, and we just want to live with really leaning on each other and making sure this is successful for us.”
