Rising rap artist LaRussell found himself in hot water after the recent comments he made about rap artist Lil Wayne.
LaRussell Responds to Backlash Over Lil Wayne Comments
In short, LaRussell said that he grew a “disdain” for Lil Wayne as he matured, despite being a fan when he was younger. Because as he got older, he realized that Weezy’s music lacked substance.
“I had grown a disdain for Wayne just because I started listening to everything like I started maturing as a human, and I’m like damn, this nigga wasn’t talking about nothing,” he said during a recent appearance on The Truth Hurts podcast. (via @ZadCozzy/X).
He also went on to say that Weezy contributed a lot of “negative” things to the hip-hop community.
“I’ve seen the negative that he contributed to the community. And I have to look like, ‘Man, what are the songs where he really talked about something and gave?'”

With Weezy having one of the most prominent fan bases in rap, LaRussell received a lot of backlash for his comments. However, LaRussell hit back against his critics. Providing another clip from his podcast appearance, where he actually praises Lil Wayne.
“One of the homies put me on Wayne, and it was like, bars. I used to have a notebook, bars. So, there are two introductions to Wayne. There’s an introduction to Wayne that’s through culture and your parents that you have no merit in,” he says in the clip. “And then there’s an introduction when you get to dive. Mine, I think it was like, Da Drought 2. And that was my reintroduction. Man, Dedication mixtapes, Da Droughts. I just got immersed. This was pre-No Ceilings. I love Wayne so much. But I understand how someone could be like, ‘Man, this isn’t the Wayne that I remember.'”
