The FIFA World Cup draw took place on Friday, December 5. The event is used to place the qualifying 48 nations into 12 groups of four teams each for the group stage of the tournament. However, this year’s event included a major twist, one that included neo soul icon, Ms. Lauryn Hill.

Hill was selected as the entertainment for the highly touted event.

The unexpected performance from the Fugees member led to a bunch of reactions from fans on social media.
“The legendary Lauryn Hill asking the stiff #FIFA congress crowd for some movement, knowing damn well she isn’t going to get any movement out of these lot,” one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“FIFA World Cup Draw going on so long that Lauryn Hill was able to show up on time for a performance,” another user added.
“Lauryn Hill performing Lost Ones at the FIFA World Cup draw with Wyclef Jean in the audience with the Haitian delegation is absolutely brain-breaking on many levels,” a third user remarked.
In 2026, the World Cup will have a halftime show for the first time ever. And they are preparing to bring out the big guns to make sure that it is a huge event.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino says that Drake could be selected as the performer at the 2026 World Cup, in hopes of creating a “rivalry” with the NFL. The World Cup is an international event that happens once every four years, just like the Olympics. So it is a significantly bigger event.
“That’s a good idea,” he said during a recent interview. “Actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities. I should have his number saved somewhere.”
Drizzy’s hometown of Toronto, Canada, will play host to the World Cup for the first time in June of 2026. No better time for the hometown hero to perform a halftime set.
