Antonio Brown ’s lawyer is pushing back hard against the narrative surrounding the former NFL star’s latest legal battle, claiming the ex–wide receiver only acted in self-defense during a Miami shooting earlier this year.

“I took this case because I passionately believe in Brown’s defense,” attorney Mark Eiglarsh said in a statement shared by NBC Sports. “The actions he was forced to take were solely in self-defense against the alleged victim’s violent behavior. Brown was attacked that night and acted within his legal right to protect himself from an individual who previously committed criminal acts against him. It’s a privilege to represent him, and I am determined to ensure that justice is served.”

Antonio Brown, 37, was extradited from Dubai back to the U.S. to face second-degree attempted murder charges connected to a May 2025 shooting outside a celebrity boxing match in Miami. Prosecutors allege Brown opened fire and injured at least one person during the confrontation.

His legal team plans to invoke Florida’s “stand your ground” law, which allows for deadly force if someone reasonably believes it’s necessary to prevent death or serious harm. Prosecutors, however, are expected to argue that the threat may have already passed when Brown allegedly pulled the trigger.

After being located by U.S. Marshals overseas, AB waived his right to contest extradition and was transferred from New Jersey to Florida for court proceedings.

If convicted, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers player could face up to 15 years in prison along with heavy financial penalties. The case marks one of the most serious legal challenges yet for Antonio Brown, whose post-NFL career has been repeatedly marked by controversy and run-ins with the law.
