It has been more than four months since the jury handed down its long-awaited verdict in the high-profile trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. But even with so much time lapsing since the decision, the trial continues to make headlines.
Lead Prosecutor in Diddy Trial Sues President Donald Trump
In July, the lead prosecutor in the trial, Maureen Comey, was fired from her position in the U.S. Attorney’s office. When the decision initially came down, many people had speculated that her firing was connected to her father, James Comey. Who has constantly gone after United States President Donald Trump. And now Maureen is going the judicial route as she has brought a lawsuit against the Commander in Chief.
“The politically motivated termination of Ms. Comey … upends bedrock principles of our democracy and justice system,” her lawyers write in the filing obtained by Billboard. “Assistant United States Attorneys like Ms. Comey must do their jobs without fearing or favoring any political party or perspective.”
The filing also adds that Comey and her lawyers believe that her firing was used as a retaliation tactic. As a means of getting even with her father because of the past remarks that he has made about President Trump.
“Ms. Comey’s termination was designed to retaliate against her,” the filing adds.”Based on her familial relation as the daughter of James B. Comey, or because of her perceived political affiliation and beliefs, or both. No other plausible explanation exists for her termination—and certainly none was provided.”
As for Diddy, he scored a major legal victory in his trial this year. To bring things up to speed, the Bad Boy Records founder was facing life in prison after being brought up on racketeering and trafficking charges. He was able to evade the more serious charges. Which means he won’t spend the rest of his life in prison. However, he was found guilty of prostitution and could still spend up to 10 years behind bars. Diddy’s sentencing date is scheduled for October 3.
