Tone Capone, the influential Bay Area producer whose work helped shape West Coast Hip-Hop, has reportedly passed away at the age of 59. His cause of death has not been disclosed.
Capone’s celebrated catalog includes Luniz’s “I Got 5 on It,” Celly Cel’s “It’s Goin Down,” 3X Krazy’s “Keep It on the Real,” Mac Dre’s “Fire” and Mac Mall’s “Servin Game.” He also contributed to numerous Rap-A-Lot Records classics, producing music for artists such as Scarface and Devin the Dude.
Throughout his career, Capone worked with an extensive list of artists that included 2Pac, E-40 and several other influential voices in Hip-Hop. His production played a major role in defining the Bay Area sound while extending its influence across the West Coast, the South and the East Coast.
Tone Capone leaves behind a powerful musical legacy that will continue to live through generations of Hip-Hop. Rest in peace.
