Lil Durk’s highly anticipated murder-for-hire trial has been delayed, with the court pushing the proceedings back to the spring.
On Monday (Jan. 5), Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald approved a continuance in the case, which was originally scheduled to begin on Jan. 20. In his ruling, the judge cited the extraordinary complexity of the case, noting that the scope of the prosecution and the number of defendants made it unrealistic to proceed under the standard timelines outlined by the Speedy Trial Act.
“The case is so unusual and so complex… that it is unreasonable to expect preparation for pre-trial proceedings or for the trial itself within the time limits established by the Speedy Trial Act,” the order states.
The new trial date for Durk and his five co-defendants is set for May 4, with a pre-trial conference scheduled for April 13. Durk has been incarcerated since his arrest in October 2024.
Federal prosecutors allege that Durk paid five affiliates connected to his Only The Family (OTF) collective to carry out a hit on Quando Rondo in August 2022. Authorities say the alleged plot was motivated by retaliation for the death of King Von, who was killed in November 2020 by Quando Rondo affiliate Timothy Leeks, also known as Lul Timm. The attempted hit ultimately resulted in the death of Quando Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a Robinson.
The postponement marks another major development in one of the most closely watched legal cases in hip-hop, as Durk remains behind bars awaiting trial this spring.
