Seeing Wayne at an NFL event was surprising to a lot of people. Especially because he did not perform for the halftime of the Super Bowl. Which took place in his hometown of New Orleans.
Even though Weezy has sour feelings about the entire situation, his fans still were optimistic that he would one day headline the halftime show. However, in a new interview with Rolling Stone., Wayne insists that shit has sailed.
“They stole that feeling,” he said to the outlet. “I don’t want to do it. It was perfect”
Rap star Kendrick Lamar was gifted the honor of performing at the Super Bowl instead. He had one of the best years that an artist has had in recent memory. At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Kendrick swept the hip-hop category. Collecting five awards for his 2024 hit single “Not Like Us.”
With him being the MVP of hip-hop this year, Lamar being the headliner in New Orleans appeared to be a no-brainer. Still, Lil Wayne said it “hurt,” that he wasn’t selected to be the headliner in New Orleans.
“It hurt a whole lot. So I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. And for automatically mentally putting myself in that position, as somebody told me that was my position. But I thought there was nothing better than that spot. And that stage and that platform in my city, so it hurt,” Weezy said after Lamar was announced as the performer.
