“Y’all know I’m not going to be there this week. Which means I guess there’s a seat to fill,” said Wayne. “Shout out to New Orleans, but I’ve been working on something very special. I got something exciting coming. Until then… I’m chillin’.”
Lil Wayne ‘Hurt’ By Halftime Show Snub
Despite both teams featuring some of the most talented players in the NFL, the person with the most star power in New Orleans this weekend won’t be wearing an Eagles or Chiefs jersey.
Rap star Kendrick Lamar will headline this Super Bowl in Louisiana this Sunday. And he will come in riding one of the hottest winning streaks of his career. Last weekend at the 2025 Grammy Awards, Kendrick cleaned up, collecting five awards for his 2024 hit single “Not Like Us.” With him being the MVP of hip-hop this year, Lamar being the headliner in New Orleans was a no-brainer.
Still, Lil Wayne said it “hurt,” that he wasn’t selected to be the headliner in New Orleans.
“It hurt a whole lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown and for automatically mentally putting myself in that position as somebody told me that was my position. But I thought there was nothing better than that spot and that stage and that platform in my city, so it hurt,” Weezy said after Lamar was announced at the performer.
Many were hopeful that despite being slighted as the Super Bowl performer he would join Kendrick on stage at the halftime show. But that does not appear to be the case.
