Nicki Minaj’s alignment with the Donald Trump administration in 2025 has left a large portion of the music industry shellshocked. As a result, she has become the subject of heavy backlash. Her latest critic is comedian Linda Perry, a famed member of the Rock Band, Four Non Blondes.
Perry Says Minaj Sided With Trump Because She ‘Wanted Something’
During a recent appearance on the Pop Shop Podcast, Perry suggested that the rap star aligned herself with the Trump administration because she needed something in return.
“It seems that she wanted something from The Office. And was trying to maybe help herself, a friend, a boyfriend, whatever. And was promised something and felt that it was worth the risk – the take, you know,” Perry said(via PopCrave/X).

After Nicki aligned herself with the Trump administration, many people suggested that she was trying to get a pardon for her husband, Kenneth Petty. In April 1995, Petty was convicted of first-degree attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl. For which he served roughly four and a half years in prison. As a result of this conviction, he was classified as a Level 2 sex offender and required to be on the registry.
Perry says that if she were in a similar situation to Minaj, she likely would have also made a “bad judgment” decision.
“If my best friend or someone in my family needed something and I had to go begging and grovelling to somebody to get it to happen, I probably would’ve made a bad judgment as well,” she continued. “Because sometimes when we’re thinking about loved ones or trying to get out of a situation, we’re not thinking clearly. So I’m not judging Nicki for what happened, what she did. I think she’s judging herself enough, and she’s suffering from her own decision. I don’t think we need to go ahead and make her feel worse than she probably already does.”
At the time of writing, Minaj has not responded to the comments made by Perry.
