Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, is back outside again. But not everybody is happy about it.
London Mayor Rips Kanye Ahead of Wireless Festival Performance
In March, the Yeezy creator was announced as the headliner for the upcoming Wireless Festival in London, United Kingdom. And while many of the rap star’s fans are stoked about his performance, London’s Mayor, Sadiq Khan, has taken issue with his upcoming show. Because of the past statements that he has made.
“We are clear that the past comments/actions of this artist are offensive and wrong, and are simply not reflective of London’s values,” Khan said in a statement following the announcement (via Kurrco/X). “This was a decision taken by the festival organisers, and not one City Hall is involved in.”
In 2025, Kanye West found himself at the epicenter of controversy for several reasons. He released a track called “Heil Hitler” and even featured a photo of a Klux Klux Klan member on the cover art. He also made a bevy of antisemitic comments.
In January, he revealed to the Wall Street Journal that he has been battling bipolar disorder. And that he often “loses touch with reality,” as a result.
“I lost touch with reality. So things got worse the longer I ignored the problem. I said and did things I deeply regret,” Ye said. “Some of the people I love the most, I treated the worst. You endured fear, confusion, humiliation, and the exhaustion of trying to have someone who was, at times, unrecognizable. Looking back, I became detached from my true self.”
