The Louisiana Supreme Court has once again declined to hear an appeal from rapper C-Murder, refusing to revisit his 2009 second-degree murder conviction.
On Tuesday (Feb. 3), the state’s high court unanimously rejected Corey Miller’s latest bid for post-conviction relief, ruling that he has exhausted his options under state law. Miller is serving a life sentence for the 2002 fatal shooting of 16-year-old Steven Thomas at a Harvey, Louisiana nightclub.
Miller, 54, the younger brother of No Limit Records founder Master P, has long maintained his innocence. His legal team has argued that recanted testimony from two witnesses and questions surrounding DNA evidence should invalidate the conviction or, at minimum, warrant a new evidentiary hearing in hopes of securing a retrial.
Those arguments have been repeatedly rejected. An appellate court and the Louisiana Supreme Court previously upheld the conviction in 2011 and 2012. In its latest ruling, the court stated that Miller failed to demonstrate any legal exception that would allow another review.
“Applicant has previously exhausted his right to state collateral review and fails to show that any exception permits his successive filing,” the court wrote.
With this decision, Miller’s long-running efforts to overturn his conviction at the state level appear to be at a standstill.
