M.I.A. has responded after Kid Cudi announced she’d no longer perform on his Rebel Ragers Tour. The controversy stems from an incident at the Dallas stop of the tour where she made an immigration joke and reportedly talked about divisive politics.
What Did M.I.A. Say?
On Monday (May 4th), the UK rapper made sure to give her side of the story in a series of posts on X.
“I wrote “[ILLYGIRL]” on the Maya LP, a song from 2010,” M.I.A. posted. I started this intro to the song with the statement saying ‘I’m illygal, my team hasn’t gotten visas yet,’ then played a song that had lyrics saying ‘f*** the law,’ which I still believe, if the law is unjust f*** it.” Do not gaslight my words, that’s the work of Satan.
She then pointed out her history of supporting immigrant rights.
I wrote “Borders” and “Illygal” and “Paper Planes” before you thought immigrant rights were cool…I don’t need this virtue signal era to all of a sudden erase an entire life I’ve led,” M.I.A. posted.
She finished her post by praising Jesus.
“Jesus was an immigrant and a rebel. I have no apology for the judgmental the wicked and the ignorant, for those are the spirits that we must overcome in our lives and in this world. Jesus returns to lead this world justly because there is injustice in this world…”

What Else Did She Say?
Afterwards, she posted several more tweets, including some that pushed back on people thinking she was a Trump supporter.
PEOPLE PRACTICE DIVINATION, READ TARRO CARDS, GO TO WITCHES, FORTUNE TELLERS, LOOK AT STARS, READ HOROSCOPES, TALK TO THERAPISTS, READ PALMS, GO TO PSYCHICS WHO CLAM THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO SEE THE FUTURE, YET THEY CAN’T TAKE A TWEET FROM ME SUGGESTING COMMON SENSE PREDICTION THAT TRUMP WAS GONNA WIN,” she posted. “MAYBE THAT’S MY ANOINTING. MY GIFT, MY TRUE ABILITY TO GUIDE YOU TO WHAT IS NEXT, THATS WHY AS AN ARTIST I GET COPIED, LIKE I’VE ALWAYS SAID WHAT WILL HAPPEN . ISNT IT TRUE THAT HE WON? WHERE IS THE LIE? I WOULD LIKE TO FIX MY PREVIOUS PERDITION THOUGH, I M GOING TO SWAP RFK WITH THOMAS MASSIE.”
She finished her spree saying she is secure in Christ and knows how Satan operates.
These posts come after Kid Cudi decided to remove her from the tour after fans were uncomfortable with her immigrant joke and alleged Republican support.
Cudi’s announcement comes off the heels of the controversial UK rapper going viral for making an illegal immigrant joke and reportedly going on political rants during the Dallas stop of the tour.
“I can’t do ‘Illegal’,” M.I.A. said. “There’s some of you who could be in the audience.”
Booing began soon after, prompting her to clarify her comments.
“Alright, I’m Illegal,” she said. “Half of my team aren’t here because they couldn’t get a visa. I want you to know that. So don’t listen to what the bots say on the internet.”
While the actual moment of her going on the “Republican rant” has so far not been posted, several people in the audience claim it happened.
Kid Cudi has not responded since taking her off the tour.
