A long-standing paternity battle involving Jay-Z has come to a close—for now—as the man claiming to be the rap mogul’s son has officially withdrawn his lawsuit.
According to court documents Rymir Satterthwaite, 31, filed a motion on July 18 to voluntarily dismiss his federal lawsuit against Jay-Z in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. “Plaintiff Rymire Satterthwaite Pro Se submits this notice of withdrawal from this complaint as a party to the action,” the filing reads. “The defendants have not filed an answer to the above complaint.”
Satterthwaite, along with his late mother Wanda Satterthwaite—who passed away in 2019—has long claimed that Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter is his biological father. Over the last decade, the duo has filed multiple lawsuits attempting to force a paternity test, all of which have been dismissed due to lack of evidence or jurisdictional issues.
The most recent attempt was filed in May 2025, marking another chapter in what Jay-Z’s legal team described as a “decades-long campaign of harassment.” Earlier this month, the rapper’s attorneys filed a motion to dismiss the case, firmly denying the allegations and reaffirming that the matter had been settled legally years ago.
Jay-Z, a billionaire entrepreneur and founder of Roc Nation, has never publicly acknowledged any connection to Satterthwaite and has consistently denied the paternity claims.
With the lawsuit now dropped, it appears this contentious legal saga may finally be over. Neither Jay-Z nor Satterthwaite has released a public statement regarding the latest filing.
