Last month, boxing stars Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather revealed that they would square off in the sequel to their 2015 super fight in 2026. And while Pacquiao and Mayweather are two of the best that the sport has ever seen, many fans have expressed skepticism about the upcoming fight. Among those skeptical fans are rappers Cam’ron and Mase.
Cam’ron & Mase Express Doubt Over Upcoming Superfight
During a recent taping of their sports talk show, It is What it Is, Mase said that he is not expecting a quality fight from Pacquiao. Especially based on his last fight.
“I really don’t like to even talk about this, you know,” Mase said. “Manny Pacquiao, in his last outing, didn’t look like the Manny Pacquiao of old. So, this is not something I’m looking forward to.”
Mase also added that for any athlete who retires and comes back, it’s hard for them to mirror their primes in their older age.
“I think once you retire, there’s a separation of the greatest period of your life, right?” he continued. “And then there’s this continuence. It’s almost like a continuance. It’s like seeing Jordan out there in ’45. We know that’s not 23.”
Cam’ron also echoed the same sentiment. Adding that he was not that thrilled about the first fight. When both boxers were in their prime.
“I didn’t want to see the first fight,” Cam said. ” I don’t think this fight would be better than the first fight. But if Floyd, as I said, we both agreed that we don’t necessarily want to see Floyd fight. But if he’s going to fight, this isn’t one of the fights that I would want to see.”
Mayweather and Pacquiao are scheduled to duel on September 19th. The fight will be held at the new Las Vegas Sphere—just a short distance from Floyd’s usual Vegas venue, the MGM Grand.
