A TV interview intended to celebrate Destiny’s Child’s legacy took an awkward turn after Mathew Knowles publicly questioned his ex-wife’s contributions.
While appearing on PIX11’s “Kandid with Kendis” to promote his Destiny’s Child tribute tour, Mathew pushed back when host Kendis Gibson praised both him and Tina Knowles for helping build the iconic R&B group.
“What work did she put in?” Mathew asked, seemingly catching Gibson off guard. After a brief pause, the anchor pointed to Tina’s early role styling the group’s hair and designing their costumes during the group’s rise.
Mathew eventually acknowledged Gibson was “absolutely right” that Tina handled the group’s “styling” and “imaging,” but moments later he stood up and cut the interview short, saying, “We’ll stop now.”
Gibson laughed and extended his hand, asking, “Sorry, did I say something wrong?” Mathew replied, “No, no, no. We’re good.”
The music executive later explained he ended the sit-down because it had “started on a bad note,” adding that he preferred to keep the focus on the Destiny’s Child tribute concert he’s currently promoting. According to Page Six, the show’s production disputed any claim that Gibson went off topic, saying the host was simply “giving them their flowers” for their role in building the group’s legacy.
