This may be hard to believe for some of you. But Kendrick Lamar is not the first artist that Drake has feuded with. Once upon a time, The Boy’s biggest rival was Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill.
Meek Mill Addresses Drake Feud, Nicki Breakup
Meek opened up about his infamous feud with Drake during a recent appearance on the Desires podcast. The rap star talked about how he is used to being treated as an underdog. He used his feud with Drake as a reference point. Noted that even after he was counted out in the aftermath of the beef, it made him even stronger.
“Being young, coming from poverty—you don’t even have to be Black—you can just be from our class. You’re at a disadvantage,”He said. “When I was battling Drake, they had to draw L’s in my comments. We come from the jungle. If ya mom loses her job, it’s people that’ll be like, ‘Ah, she lost her job. That’s a L,’” he says. “We don’t do that where we come from.”
He also went on to say people echoed a similar sentiment once he broke up with his former girlfriend, Nicki Minaj.
“People [will] be like, ‘Yo, after your second album, you’re gonna be done. Ah, Drake, he’s done. Nicki, he’s done. Ugh, he went to jail for two years, he’s done,” he continued. “You know where I come from? I’m on a 20-year journey. And people and someone that might have met you in year 18, telling you, ‘You done.’”
Drizzy & Meek’s Feud Revisited
Drake and Meek Mill officially squashed their three-year beef in September 2018. When Drake brought Meek out as a surprise guest to perform “Dreams and Nightmares.” During the Boston stop of the Aubrey and the Three Amigos Tour. It was a much-needed moment in hip-hop at the time. Because it was just one day after rap star Mac Miller was found dead in his home.
The two artists also went on to collaborate once again. On the hit record Goin Bad, off Meek’s 2018 project, Championships.
This isn’t the first time that Meek has opened up about his feud with Drizzy. The Philadelphia rapper appeared on Funk Flex’s radio show in 2018. And said that even after having a bitter feud, they were able to grow from it. Meek also said that they often even discuss the diss tracks that were exchanged.
