Media pundit Melyssa Ford recently sat down for an interview with comedian Lil Rel Howery, where she dished on her true feelings about being used as a “pawn” in Drake and Joe Budden’s long-running feud.
Melyssa Ford Says She Was ‘Fine’ Being Used as Pawn in Drake Beef
During the conversation, she reveals that she “dated” Drake in the past. Around the time his first album came out. And says that because of their history, she was “fine” with being dragged into the middle of his beef with Budden.
Drake reignited his beef with Budden on his 2025 track “Gimme a Hug,” off of his latest album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. The Six God appeared to take shots at Budden while praising Ford, who was a member of the Joe Budden podcast crew at the time.
“Melyssa Ford, you’re a legend from the 6ix, hate to see you with a d**k-sucker,” he raps on the track.
After the track was released in 2025, the Joe Budden Podcast crew discussed Ford’s name drop on the track. To which she described as “awesome,” but also noted that it was not the first time that
“I’m still processing,” she said. “I’m just still processing. […] I mean, it’s great. It’s awesome. I mean, it’s not the first time, though. It’s not even the second, it’s not even the third. But thank you. I don’t know what he is trying to do; I am not in that man’s mind, I do not know. I will let you guys opine on that.”
Although Ford’s excitement over the name-drop appeared to be a non-issue, she did end up leaving the podcast toward the end of 2025.
But Joe insisted that there was no beef surrounding her exit. She had just become a big fish in a small pond.
“It’s only so long you can contain good talent like that,” he said. “The dogs get big and gotta leave the cage at some point … We love Mel. Shout out to her,” he said.
