Memphis Bleek is glad fans got a rare glimpse of “Jigga” when JAY-Z let loose during his fiery Roots Picnic freestyle.
Speaking with Boardroom, Bleek revealed he didn’t catch the verse live because things were so hectic backstage, but he wasn’t surprised once it started making the rounds online.
“JAY just be having verses,” he said, explaining that Hov is constantly writing, even if most of those bars never get released.
The Roc-A-Fella founder’s Roots Picnic freestyle made headlines after he appeared to take aim at critics and former associates, including Dame Dash, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj. Bleek loved every second of it.
“I’m glad he put belt to a** on certain people; they need that spanking.”

Memphis Bleek reflects on Jay-Z’s freestyle and the Roc-A-Fella reunion at Roots Picnic as he reveals he recently told Beanie Sigel and Freeway that they should all get in the studio to record a 5 to 6… pic.twitter.com/T6qQvJgxV7
“Everybody get hit. He put the fully on,” Bleek said. “They know Shawn Carter, they know JAY-Z, they don’t know Jigga. That’s Jigga.”
Bleek also said he’s glad Hov responded through music instead of social media, arguing that too many false narratives spread online unchecked.
“I’m glad he put belt to a** on certain people,” he said. “JAY always responds through music… If we’re going to entertain, I’ma make money off it.”
