Michael Jackson’s estate is speaking out. A video of rap artist Sexyy Redd ripping off his hit song “Beat It” went viral on social media earlier this week.
Jackson Estate Rips Sexyy Redd For Ripping Off ‘Beat It’
In a statement to Billboard, the Jackson estate says that they were completely blindsided by the viral video. And made it clear that she has not been authorized to sample the hit record in any capacity.
“We were totally unaware of this,” a spokesman for the Jackson Estate told the outlet on Thursday (February 12). “The use of the music is unauthorized.”
Earlier this week, rap artist Lil Yachty posted a viral video of Sexyy Redd in the studio recording her version of Jackson’s 1982 smash hit. But her version was way more lewd.
“Just eat it, just eat it/ You better not n*t fast because I hate a minute man. And if that d**k is trash, I’m telling all my friends. I’ll beat your a— and we bout to throw them hands,” she raps in the lyrics.

After the clip went viral, it left fans in an uproar.
“Can we please CANCEL n learn from this mistake of an Artist. This is why Prince n other legendary artist didn’t want new artist sampling their music. Straight disrespectful n no creativity at ALL,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. This new generation of female rappers is absolutely disgusting,” another user added.
“Why do these trash artists have to steal from great songs Nothing is original now,” another user added.
In the caption of the social media post, Yachty jokingly said that Sexyy Redd’s version of the song would appear in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, that is set to hit theaters this April.
At the time of writing, Sexyy Redd has not responded to the comments made by the Jackson estate.
