NBC acquired the NBA’s television rights from Ted Turner’s TNT in 2024. And with the NBA preparing to make the shift from cable television, they have already brought out the biggest name free agent on the market. Six-time NBA Finals MVP, Michael Jordan.
Michael Jordan Wishes He Could Take ‘Magic Pill’ to Play Again
Jordan serves as a special contributor on the network, where he gives key insights on the game. His first segment aired at halftime of the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder game on Tuesday (October 21).
During his first segment with NBC analyst Mike Tirico, Jordan expressed his desire to play in today’s NBA. Citing that he misses the competitiveness and wishes that he could take a ‘magic pill’ to rejoin the league.
“Love it like you wouldn’t believe,” Jordan replied when Tirico asked him if he still loves the game. “Honestly, I wish I could take a magic pill, put on shorts, and go out and play the game of basketball today, because that’s who I am. That type of competition is what I live for.”
Jordan went on today to say that he would welcome the challenge of competing against “what people see as great basketball.”
“And I miss it. I miss that aspect of playing the game of basketball, being able to challenge myself against what people see as great basketball, but it’s better for me to be sitting here talking to you as opposed to popping my Achilles and being in a wheelchair for a while,” he said.
Jordan also expressed that although he is not an active NBA player, he still feels he has an “obligation” to the game of basketball. To pay it forward to the next generation.
“I have an obligation to the game of basketball. Not financially. I’m OK,” he said. “I mean more or less for me as a basketball player, it’s to be able to pass on messages of success and dedication to the game of basketball.”
