NBC acquired the NBA’s television rights from Ted Turner’s TNT in 2024. And with the NBA preparing to make the shift from cable television they are already bringing out some of the biggest heavy hitters in the industry. But the network may have just landed the ultimate game-changer in Six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan.

Michael Jordan Set to Join NBC as a “Special Contributor”

According to a May 12 post from the network’s account on X, formerly known as Twitter, Jordan is now set to join NBC as a “special contributor” for the 2025 NBA season.

“A legendary addition to our team! We’re thrilled to welcome Michael Jordan as a special contributor to the NBA on NBC and Peacock,” the post read with an accompanying hype video.

Fans on the social media platform weighed in with tons of different reactions.

“Please don’t be a hater of new players like [Charles Barkley],” one fan said.

“The money must be CRAZY to get this man out of hiding,” another user added.

“The only thing he can contribute is how to look good against an era of mailmen,” another user added.

Jordan retired from the NBA, after a three year stint with the Washington Wizards. But he is most known for his time with the Chicago Bulls franchise. He helped erect a dynasty, leading them to six champions. All of those titles were won on NBC. So adding him to the network’s coverage makes perfect sense.

Even though Jordan retired from the NBA as a player in the early 2000s, he has remained relevant in the sports industry. He was a minority owner of the Charlotte Hornets for 13 years from 2010 to 2023.

His self-named sneaker brand is also still booming. He has some of the top athletes in several different sports signed to the brand. Luka Doncic, Jayson Tatum, and Jalen Hurts are just a few of the athletes who are currently signed to the Jordan brand.
