Montell Jordan Reacts to Drake Sampling “Daddy’s Home”
During a recent appearance on the We Sound Crazy podcast, Jordan revealed that Drake sampling his song “Daddy’s Home” for the Track “Papi’s Home” off of his 2021 Certified Lover Boy album was a “wild surprise.”
He added that Drake sampling the song allowed him to finally recoup his publishing and royalties after 28 years.
“The content in the song, with the language and stuff like that, is stuff that’s not on brand for me. But it’s on brand for him And it advanced the publishing of the original song more which allowed me to recoup faster,” Jordan said.
“After Certified Lover Boy dropped, the recoupment of my publishing and royalties finally recouped after 28 years.”
Meanwhile, Drake is less than three months removed from his latest EP and is already looking toward his next solo project. During a recent stream, Drake’s artist OVO Smiley noted that the Grammy winner is laser focused concerning his upcoming album. To the point that even when they he has even just a moment of downtime, Drake is working on the upcoming project.
“We’re at a party and he was in the other room by himself eating pasta with wired headphones and writing music while we have a whole f****g party going on. He’s on a different mode right now,” Smiley said.
“Even at the ‘Nokia’ video shoot, during a break, he had a bunch of producers and he was just recording. He’s in that crazy mode, right now.”
