After Mystikal returned to court ahead of his upcoming trial, his lawyer claims his alleged rape and kidnapping case is a result of the #MeToo movement.
On Tuesday morning (Jan. 8), Mystikal appeared in court with his lawyer Joel Pearce. Speaking with KSLA, Pearce says the charges should’ve never been filed and that the entire situation is fueled by the women’s rights movement that has exposed the sexually deviant behavior of male celebrities in the film and music industry.
“I don’t think that anyone should be made to stand trial for number one, something they did not do,” Pearce claimed. “And number two, something that’s caught up in this political movement, the me too movement. Michael is not guilty of anything.”
During the trial, Pearce got testimony from two witnesses before a Caddo Parish District Court Judge and a grand jury. A new hearing regarding a discovery request for social media records was set for March 6 before he stands trial later that month.
Mystikal, who turned himself in 16 months ago, has previously pleaded not guilty to the charges of first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping. The unnamed woman accused both Mystikal and another man, Averweone Darnell Holman, of raping her. Holman faces the same charges. A third individual, a woman named Tenichia Monieck Wafford, has also been charged with obstruction of justice in relation to the alleged assault for reportedly trying to convince the woman to retract her story.
Mystikal is being held on a $3 million dollar bond, and Tyler’s trial is now set for May 20th of this year.
