Nas ‘s Mass Appeal has teamed up with Marvel to launch a limited-edition comic book celebrating its Legend Has It… initiative—an ongoing series spotlighting some of New York’s most influential MCs.
Inspired by the album series of the same name, the comic pays tribute to seven icons who shaped the sound and story of hip-hop: Nas and DJ Premier, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, Raekwon, Big L, De La Soul, and Slick Rick.
“Working with Marvel on this comic is a celebration of Hip Hop and its legacy,” Nas said in a statement. “There’s a story we tell through our music, and watching that energy come to life in these pages is a tribute to the culture that shaped us and continues to inspire generations.”
Written by Brandon Thomas (Black Lightning) and brought to life by illustrator Sanford Greene (Bitter Root, Doom), the project blends Mass Appeal’s deep cultural roots with Marvel’s legendary storytelling. Fans will get their first look at the comic during New York Comic Con on October 10 at the Javits Center, where Marvel and Mass Appeal will host a live panel discussion, Comics and Hip-Hop: A Marvel x Mass Appeal Conversation.
The Legend Has It… campaign itself is designed to honor cultural changemakers through music. So far, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, and Mobb Deep have already dropped projects under the initiative, keeping the legacy alive while opening the door for new generations to discover it.
With Mass Appeal and Marvel joining forces, Legend Has It… isn’t just an album series or a comic—it’s a bridge between two worlds of storytelling that have always thrived on larger-than-life heroes, epic battles, and timeless legacies.
