Days ago Nas teased plans for some form of a visual involving his music via his Instagram account. On Thursday he released the Nasir short film in support of his eleventh studio album by the same title. The NASIR album was released back in June as part of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music summer rollout.
Many believed that the teaser was for one single song but the Nas decided to go a step further and deliver an in-depth visual telling the story of his 2018 LP. Nas collaborated with director Rohan Blair-Mangat, who helmed the flick, and Mass Appeal on the fresh venture.
The 16-minute clip implements vocals from each of the seven tracks featured on Nasir, but delves deeper into peeling back the layers regarding social and economic issues severely hampering the minority communities. Nas candidly harps on police brutality, which was a frequent theme used throughout the album on tracks such as “Cops Shot the Kid.”
