Nas continued his iconic 2025 feature run when he appeared on De La Soul’s new album. And in an effort to push the culture forward, he shouted out three of the hottest artists in the game.
Nas Pays Homage to Doechii, Kendrick Lamar, and SZA
On his feature on the 11th track on the album, Run It Back!, the Queens native pays homage to Doechii, Kendrick Lamar, and SZA.
“Since the 80s, 90s, and 00s? How sick it was, how did it slip? / Now it’s just Doechii, Dot, and SZA with the most powerful hits / Leon Thomas, Shaboozey… only black artists on top of the charts,” he raps on the verse (via HipHopNMore).
Kendrick has often been compared to Nas throughout his career. Mainly because of his lyricism and knack for raw storytelling. The comparisons only escalated after Kendrick dropped Man at the Garden, which is a spinoff of Nas’s iconic track, One Mic.
Nas sat down for an interview with Complex in October. And one of the topics that came up was a potential collaboration with him and K. Dot. Nas was elated at just the thought of a collaboration with Lamar. Noting that it could be a “great” opportunity for them both. However, he also said that the timing has to be right.
“Oh man, you know, it’s just all about the artist. When you get the chance to record and work together, it, to me, should feel like really natural and, you know, that would be great,” Nas said about a potential Kendrick Lamar collab.
“I’d love to work with him, but I feel like it just has to be smooth the way it connects, you know, ‘cuz it just got to be fire,” he added. “Anything I do with anybody, especially someone like him, I just want to take my time with.”
