Kendrick Lamar has quickly become one of the top hip-hop artists in the game. But amid his rise to the top, K.Dot has remembered to pay homage to the greats that have come before him.
The latest example of this is on his latest album GNX, which dropped last November. One of the songs interpolates Nas’s iconic hit record One Mic.
Nas Teases Potential Kendrick Lamar Collaboration
Nas sat down for an interview with Complex on Wednesday (October 15). And one of the topics that came up was a potential collaboration with him and K. Dot. And while Nas says that the opportunity to work with Kendrick would be “great,” he also noted that the timing also has to be right.
“Oh man, you know, it’s just all about the artist. When you get the chance to record and work together, it, to me, should feel like really natural and, you know, that would be great,” Nas said about a potential Kendrick Lamar collab.
“I’d love to work with him, but I feel like it just has to be smooth the way it connects, you know, ‘cuz it just got to be fire,” he added. “Anything I do with anybody, especially someone like him, I just want to take my time with.”
This is not the first time that Nas has spoken glowingly about the Compton Native.
During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Nas explained why he believes that Kendrick is hip-hop’s “North Star.”
“We all, as artists, love this art form and have our opinions on it. Kendrick is one of the brightest stars we’ve ever seen,” he said to the outlet. “And I don’t only mean superstar, I mean like the North Star. I think he’s one of those.”
Could a potential Nas and Kendrick collab be on the way? We’ll just have to wait and see.
