Hawks ‘Magic City Night’ Nixed By NBA
The franchise was planning to celebrate the city’s iconic gentlemen’s club on March 16. When they take on the Orlando Magic. But the promotion received a lot of backlash. With many people calling it disrespectful to women.
In a statement, NBA commissioner Adam Silver called nixing the promotion “the right decision.
“When we became aware of the Atlanta Hawks’ scheduled promotion, we reached out to Hawks leadership. To better understand their plans and rationale,” he said in a statement (via Shams/X). “While we appreciate the team’s perspective and their desire to move forward, we have heard significant concerns from a broad array of league stakeholders, including fans, partners, and employees. The decision to cancel the promotion was met with a lot of backlash from fans.
“I think it’s funny how they pick and choose when they want to have ‘morals’ for certain things,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Meanwhile, sports betting ads run every 90 seconds, domestic violence cases get swept under the rug, and we’re supposed to believe a strip club theme night is where the league draws the line?” a second user asked.
“The Magic City game would’ve had the highest attendance of the season,” a third person chimed in.
The basketball game is still scheduled to go on, but the promotion has officially been nixed.
