Ne-Yo has sold over 20 million albums worldwide and over 29 million certified albums and singles in the United States. But even though he has far exceeded expectations, the R&B star still thinks his career has been stunted to some degree.
Ne-Yo Says His Polymaryp Cost Him Career Opportunities
Following his divorce from his ex-wife, Crystal Renay, in 2023, Ne-Yo entered a relationship with three women. Cristina, Arielle, and Moneii. During a recent appearance on the Sorry We’re Cyrus podcast with Tish and Brandi Cyrus, Ne-Yo said that he has missed out on career opportunities. Because he decided to involve himself in a polyamorous relationship.
“The world is mad. There are people who are upset. There are deals that I missed out on. Because they’re like, ‘We don’t know if we can get behind the whole polyamorous [thing],” he said.
“It’s almost like you can be a great person,” Ne-Yo added. “You can show respect and appreciation [for your fans and colleagues], but the second you do something that they don’t agree with, you’re canceled, you know what I mean? And that just doesn’t make any sense to me.”
Ne-Yo also p believes that there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding his relationships. Specifically, how people think that polyamory is centered around sex. But the R&B star insists that he, Cristina, Arielle, and Moneii have a deep love for each other.
“We are a family. We love each other, and it’s a beautiful thing,” he added.
In a 2025 sit-down with PEOPLE, Ne-Yo explained how he introduced the women to each other and how they decided to enter a polyamorous relationship.
“I let it be known, ‘Listen, I like you, but I also like her, and I also like her, so here’s what I want to do. I want to bring this whole thing together. If you want it, cool; if you don’t, that’s cool, too. No love lost,” he explained.
