Nelly has officially announced a major new chapter for the St. Lunatics, revealing that Metro Boomin will executive produce a special upcoming project.
On Sunday (Dec. 14), during the Black and White Ball in St. Louis, Nelly surprised fans with the news. In a clip from the event, he declared, “St. Lunatics 2026 executive produced by Metro Boomin. St. Louis, we in the building, we turning up 2026 one time!” The announcement signals the long-awaited arrival of a new St. Lunatics album, slated for 2026.
The project carries added significance given the group’s complicated history, particularly the years-long dispute between Nelly and Ali. The tension stemmed from disagreements over money, royalties, and proper credit for the group’s contributions to Nelly’s 2000 debut album, Country Grammar. The conflict escalated into a lawsuit filed by Ali on behalf of the St. Lunatics, alleging that Nelly withheld royalties.
However, the legal action quickly fractured the group, as Murphy Lee, City Spud, and Kyjuan withdrew from the lawsuit, stating they had not consented to it. Ali ultimately dropped the case in April 2025, clearing the path for reconciliation.
With Metro Boomin attached as executive producer and the legal issues now behind them, the St. Lunatics’ 2026 project represents a potential reunion moment—and a major cultural moment—for St. Louis hip-hop.
