Nicki Minaj’s ongoing legal woes just became even more of an uphill climb. According to a November 13 report from Us Weekly, the rap star’s longtime attorney Judd Burstein “abruptly” dropped her from his caseload. And it couldn’t have come at a worse time. She is in a $10 million legal dispute with a fan.
Nicki Minaj’s Lawyer Quits Amid $10 Million Lawsuit
Amid the court proceedings, a business management company, the North Star Group, wrote a letter to the court explaining the entire debacle.
“Mr. Burstein abruptly withdrew entirely from his representation of [Minaj and her company], without giving any prior notice,” the letter states.
However, just because the situation has become dire does not mean that Nicki is waving the white flag. The letter also stated the rap star intends to “defend” herself against the lawsuit. But before that can happen, she needs time to find a lawyer.
“Minaj and her company intend to appear and defend themselves in this matter,” the letter continues.
“We are requesting a stay of the proceedings, including all deadlines and further motion practice, so that [Minaj and her company] may have time to find and retain new litigation counsel, have counsel review the case file, confer with their new counsel, and prepare any responsive filings in an orderly manner.”
As for the reason that Minaj is being sued? Former Minaj superfan Tameer Peak is suing the rap star for $10 million. Peak affirms that Minaj is guilty of defamation after she insulted him during an April 2024 livestream. Peak alleges that the statements Nicki made about him are false and damaging. After she accused him of stalking and having a mental disability, which has caused him public humiliation.
This is just the latest legal issue that Minaj is facing. However, it is not the only one.
After her husband allegedly assaulted a security guard during a stop on her overseas tour, a default judgment of $500k was awarded to the plaintiff. The default judgment was due to the fact that Minaj and Petty did not respond to the complaint. The security guard recently filed a motion to force the sale of Minaj’s LA estate to settle the debt, as she failed to pay. However, a final decision has not been made.
Either way, this is the wrong time for Nicki to be without counsel. Stay tuned for more updates.
