Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenny Petty was just taken into federal custody and hit with an indictment for failing to register as a sex offender after moving his residence to the West Coast.
According to a federal indictment, obtained by The Blast, prosecutors claim Kenneth Petty moved to L.A. County from New York back in July 2019, until it was discovered in November 2019 that he failed to register as a sex offender.
Petty was convicted of 1st degree Attempted Rape back in 1995 when he held a 16-year-old girl at knifepoint, and since then he has been required to register as a sex offender wherever he lives.
According to TMZ, Petty turned himself into U.S. Marshalls on Wednesday and is currently in custody. He’s due to face a judge later in the day where he will be officially presented with charges.
The date of November 15, 2019 is significant in the indictment, as it was the day Petty was pulled over in Beverly Hills. At that moment, officers reportedly discovered he had not registered as a sex offender, and Nicki Minaj’s husband was placed under arrest.
It appears the local arrest triggered officials to look into federal charges, due to Petty allegedly traveling between states.
Petty later bailed out on a $20,000 bond, but he was later charged for failing to register by the L.A. County District Attorney. He’s currently still dealing with the charge on the local level while now dealing with federal issues.
