R&B singer Nivea is opening up about her cancer diagnosis at 44.
The Don’t Mess With My Man recently appeared on the social media series Cadillac Chronicles and revealed that she had been diagnosed with leukemia.
Nivea Opens Up About Leukemia Diagnosis
The singer added that she has “been going through treatment,” and said that “everything is going great so far.” She also said that she expects to stay on the right track.
Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow that hinders the body’s ability to fight infections, transport oxygen, and control bleeding.
Despite the diagnosis, Nivea’s spirit appears to still have her mental strength. She says that it has made her “grateful for life.”
“It’s so cliché to say you don’t know the time nor the hour, but it’s true, and it just helped me put a lot of things in perspective, and I live in gratitude, like, religiously, and I’m just grateful for everything,” she said (Via PEOPLE).
The diagnosis has also given the singer a new outlook on life. As she says, she is leaning more into doing the things that she wants to do.
“I’m definitely back into my music, and I’m going to school for audio engineering,” she added. “I’ve always wanted to learn how to engineer, and mixing engineering in particular.”
Nivea was an R&B sensation in the early 2000s. She is best known for her hit songs “Don’t Mess with My Man,” “Laundromat,” and “Okay.” “Don’t Mess With My Man” scored a Grammy nomination in 2003 for Best R&B Performance.
