It has been nearly four years since the tragic murder of Young Dolph. The Memphis native, born Adolph Robert Thornton Jr, was murdered inside of a local hotspot, Makeda’s Cookie’s in November 2021.
Young Dolph Murder Suspect Says Yo Gotti’s Brother Ordered Hit
One man has already been convicted in the tragic slaying. 21-year-old Justin Johnson was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2024 and received a lifetime prison sentence. But now it is time for his accomplices to stand trial.
Per VIBE, on Monday, August 18, one of the alleged co-conspirators, Cornelius Smith, admitted that it was Yo Gotti’s brother, Anthony “Big Jook” Mims, who ordered the hit. In addition, bounties were placed on other members of Dolph’s Paper Route Empire (PRE) record label.
Before his death, Dolph and Gotti had a longstanding feud that went way beyond music.
Before the day of the fatal shooting, Smith recalled canvassing for opportunities to carry out the hit. When he and his co-conspirator, Hernandez Govan, who he described as the “middleman,” received a tip about Dolph’s location, they knew they had to “make something shake.” So they tailed the rap star to the local bakery.
“They came, driving across the light, and we spotted the car. We were like, there they go. We proceed to trail Young Dolph,” he said during his recount of the shooting.
“Once we saw him, we didn’t say anything. We knew it was go time. Once we pulled in, that’s when I saw Young Dolph closest to the glass.”
Smith also recalled that after the shooting, they Facetimed Big Jook to let him know the job was done.
“In the meantime, he FaceTimed Big Jook. He [Jook] told us he would get with us when he was done with his kids,” he added.
Big Jook was also murdered in a shooting in Memphis in January 2024 at a funeral repass. However, no arrests have been made in connection with his shooting.
