Ozzy Osbourne, the rock and roll legend behind several timeless classics such as “Crazy Train,” “Mr. Crowley,” “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” and “No More Tears,” has passed away. He was 76 years old.
Ozzy Osbourne Dead at 76
Following his passing, Osbourne’s representatives released a statement. Noting that he passed away “surrounded by love” on Tuesday morning.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the statement reads(via Billboard). “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
No cause of death for Osbourne has been revealed. But what we do know is that the Rock & Roll legend had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2019.
Osbourne will go down as a Rock & Roll legend. And had nothing left to prove in the music industry. But although his legend status was cemented before his passing, he noted that he was disappointed in how it ended. Because of the lasting effects of his health-related issues, he was forced to retire.
“My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments. Endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernetics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak,” Osbourne said in February 2023.
“Never would I have imagined that my touring days would have ended this way. My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform. Without having to travel from city to city and country to country.”
Although Osbourne was most known as a rock and roll legend, he left his mark on the hip-hop industry as well, as he has been sampled on several records.
Trick Daddy sampled “Crazy Train” in his song “Let’s Go”. Eminem sampled “Going Through Changes” in his song, renamed after the original version. And A Tribe Called Quest used a Black Sabbath sample in “We the People…”
