The 68th annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday (February 1). While it was a great year for music, everyone could be nominated for an award. And as a result, somebody was going to feel left out. One of those artists was Playboi Carti.
Playboi Carti Upset By Grammys Snub
Carti submitted his 2025 Album, Music, for Grammy consideration. However, the EP was not nominated for a Grammy, despite it being one of the more successful releases of the year. During a recent stream, hip-hop personality DJ Akademiks said that Carti was disappointed about being snubbed by the Grammy committee. Especially because he felt like he “played the game” by pivoting from making music for his fans and focusing on making “global” songs.
“Carti felt he played the game,” Akademiks said during a recent stream (via Kurrco/X). “He said to me directly, ‘Ak, “I could’ve made an album just for my fans, but they told me, you need to make songs that are global, you need to do this, you need to have collabs. I went for the guys who get nominated, I brought them in.'”
Playboi Carti made 'MUSIC' specifically with industry acclaim in mind, according to Akademiks:

However, fans in the comments section didn’t appear to have much sympathy for the rap star. They attributed Carti’s attempt to appease other audiences as the primary reason why the album wasn’t nominated for the award.
“I mean it’s obvious n that’s exactly why it ain’t work,” one user said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“So he made his album disappointing on purpose and still didn’t get nominated fairs,” another user added.
“It’s pretty obvious you can tell the album was made to be mass appealing,” a third user chimed in.
“Music” debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 after earning 298,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.
