Power 105.1’s flagship program, The Breakfast Club, is out here making major moves. On Thursday (May 21), the streaming service announced that the hit morning program, which features Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, and Loren Lorosa, will be available live starting June 1. Making it the first daily live show to air on the platform.
The Breakfast Club Set to Make Netflix History
However, according to the platform, the live version of the show on Netflix will slightly differ from the one that fans are used to hearing on the radio. The commercial breaks will be filled by “exclusive bonus segments, behind-the-scenes moments, extended discussions and original content,” in an effort to provide an “uninterrupted experience” for viewers (via CNN).
Following the announcement, media maven Charlamagne the God expressed his excitement about the move.
“The media landscape will always evolve, but one thing consistently cuts through: live programming,” Charlamagne said in a statement. “That’s a big reason ‘The Breakfast Club’ has sustained its reign for so long. We’re building something powerful — real-time conversation, real community, on a global scale.”
Lauren Smith, Netflix’s vice president of content licensing and programming strategy, also agreed that bringing a live version of the morning program to their platform is “a big step forward” in how Netflix will “bring culturally defining audio-first franchises to life for Netflix audiences around the world.”
When the Breakfast Club announced that their interview would be exclusively available on Netflix, many of the non-subscribers felt alienated. And felt like it would impact the visibility of the morning program as a whole. But the move is paying dividends for them.
