Prosecutors have asked a New York federal judge to sentence Sean “Diddy” Combs to more than 11 years in prison following his conviction on prostitution-related charges. They argue that Combs’ crimes were violent, left victims living in fear, and typically draw decade-long sentences in similar cases.
In a filing submitted just after midnight, prosecutors called Combs “unrepentant,” noting that while he admitted to acts of violence and abuse during his trial, he has since tried to shift blame onto his victims. Letters from accusers describing the long-lasting impact of his behavior were also included in the submission.
Combs, 55, has been jailed since July, when he was convicted of two counts of violating the Mann Act for arranging paid sexual encounters between male sex workers and his girlfriends. Prosecutors said he often orchestrated drug-fueled, multi-day events that were recorded. Each conviction carries up to 10 years in prison.
The jury cleared him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges, which could have led to a life sentence. Defense attorneys are urging the judge to impose no more than 14 months. Sentencing is scheduled for Friday.
