Rap stars Pusha T and Malice, also known as Clipse, returned to the studio for the first time in a decade with the release of their studio album, Let God Sort ‘Em Out, this past summer. However, their return to the booth was not short of drama.
Pusha T Claims Travis Scott Cheated By Dropping on Clipse’s Release Date
An incident with Travis Scott at Pharrell’s studio during one of their recording sessions took center stage during their rollout. So much so that Scott decided to release his new project, Jackboys 2, on the same day as their album in July.
Let God Sort Em Out sold 118,000 in its first week. While Jackboys 2 sold a more impressive 232,000. However, Pusha T believes that Travis’ decision to drop on their release date was cheating.
“You cheat. We cheat. Everybody cheats. Fuck it,” Pusha T said in a recent interview with GQ.
Malice also added, “Listen, everybody has a right to do what they do. Whatever you have the power to do, whatever tools you have to utilize. That goes for everybody, even us. Let’s just play and see what it is. We embrace it all and love it all. Ain’t no sitting around moping and wishing—nah, let’s rock.”
According to Pusha T, the catalyst of his issues with Scott dates back to 2023, when Clipse first began recording their new album. Travis was excited about his new album “Utopia” and wanted the Clipse’s producer, Pharrell, to hear it. Travis met Pharrell at his studio at the LV headquarters in Paris to play him the album. But in doing so, he interrupted a Clipse recording session. Travis played the album for Pharrell, including his controversial song “Meltdown” — except he didn’t play the version with the now infamous Drake verse that takes aim at Pharrell. Which the rap duo saw as shady business.
