Pusha T and Malice, also known as the rap duo, Clipse dropped their first in 15 years on July 11. The album, So Be It has been out for just a short time. But it is already creating a significant buzz in the music industry. Clipse has a star-studded list of features on their new project. Nas, Tyler The Creator, and Kendrick Lamar were among the most prominent names featured on the new project. However, fans noticed that there was a significant omission from the list of features. That being Roc Nation founder, Jay-Z.

Pusha T Reveals Why Jay-Z Wasn’t on Clipse’s New Album

In a recent interview with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, Pusha T explained why HOV was not featured on the album.

“He was sent ‘Chains & Whips,’ ‘M.T.B.T.T.F.’, [‘So Be It’],” Pusha T said. “Hov had the album. It was all for him to [do] whatever he wanted to do.”

That’s when Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne Tha God asked if “nothing moved his spirit?” Pusha then responded by saying

“I don’t know, man.”

Of course, fans had a lot to say about Jay-Z’s no-show on the album on social media.

“Maybe Jay finally got tired of rapping about coke at 54 and y’all just not ready to admit it,” one fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Hov said keep that trash,” another user responded.

One of the reasons that several fans were hopeful that Jay-Z would be featured on Clipse’s new album was that when the duo made their official release date announcement in May, the distribution was credited to Hov’s label, Roc Nation.

However, in 2024 they revealed their plans to drop a project for the first time in fifteen years under the Def Jam Label. This had many wondering if there had been a falling out between the two sides. In an interview with GQ, Pusha T revealed the reason behind that was a dispute over a Kendrick Lamar verse.

“They wanted me to ask Kendrick to censor his verse, which of course I was never doing,” he said. “And then they wanted me to take the record off.”

Clipse ended up leaving the label. And Kendrick did appear on the album on a track titled Chains & Whips.
