The rapper shared a brief snippet of the track, titled “Dope Boy Phone,” while bringing the news to social media. Huncho also provided fans with an exclusive look at the process for creating the song’s official cover art.
“Dope Boy Phone” is scheduled to drop tomorrow (May 2) on all streaming platforms.
Last November marked two years since the death of acclaimed rapper Takeoff, one-third of the former Atlanta rap trio Migos.
Quavo shared photos on Instagram remembering his late nephew. “Til Infinity,” the post read.
Quavo previously opened up about dealing with his grief ahead of the release of his latest solo project, Rocket Power.
“I miss him a lot and I love him. He know I love him. That’s what we always know so when you see me and see me smiling, you don’t got to ever think that I forgot about him. I think about him all the time. Sometimes I cry myself to sleep. If I can’t feel him, I just know he’s around,” the rapper said.
Takeoff was shot and killed outside a bowling alley in Houston, Texas in the early hours of November 1, 2022. The 28-year-old was fatally wounded after a dice game turned violent and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Quavo, who was present at the time of the shooting, escaped unharmed but still carries the loss of his family. He has since taken a strong stance against gun violence, creating a foundation in his nephew’s honor – The Rocket Foundation.
