Disgraced R&B star R. Kelly is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence. And although it has only been four years since his sentencing, he appears to have made enemies on the inside.
On June 17, the “Ignition” artist was rushed to the hospital. After being served an overdose of medication. According to Kelly’s attorney, Beau B. Brindley, the overdose was caused by prison medical staff who served Kelly an enhanced dosage while he was in solitary confinement.
R. Kelly Rushed to Hospital After Overdose
According to Brindley, the artist was placed into solitary confinement on Tuesday, June 10, and served a surplus of medication two days later (June 12). The following morning (June 13), R. Kelly collapsed in his cell after experiencing “dizziness” and “vision loss” and was immediately rushed to Duke University Hospital.
“That means that, within two days of the filing of his motion, Bureau of Prisons officials administered an amount of medication that significantly exceeded a safe dose and caused Mr. Kelly to overdose, putting his life in jeopardy,” Brindley said in an exclusive statement to AllHipHop. “They gave him an amount of medicine that could have killed him.”
The report also adds that doctors determined that the former R&B star received a “life-threatening” overdose while in solitary confinement. After keeping R. Kelly for an additional two days doctors for observation, doctors recommended surgery for him.
However, the former R&B star was forcibly removed from the hospital, against medical advice.
“Within an hour, officers with guns came into his hospital room and removed Mr. Kelly,” his attorney added. “He was taken from the hospital against his will and against the directives of the doctors. He was denied the surgery he needed to clear blood clots in his lungs that threatened his life. This happened. This will be confirmed by hospital records. It is undeniable,” Brindley added.
In September 2021, the “Chocolate Factory” creator was convicted of nine counts of racketeering. Specifically related to him being the head of a sex trafficking ring involving young children.
