During his appearance on the It’s Just My Opinion podcast, Fest said it went down at the 1998 Scribble Jam in Cincinnati.
“It was the biggest battle in the Midwest and one of the biggest rap battles in the country,” he recalled.
“I battled Eminem and that was the first time a white guy ever called me a n-gga. He said, ‘I’ll let my razor split you ’til they have to staple stitch you/This n-gga took my facial tissue, turned it to a racial issue.’”
Despite the use of the slur Rhymefest says he wasn’t offended, but rather impressed because the bar was “dope.”
“You couldn’t even be mad! I realized something about racism that day – it’s why Family Guy works.
He added: “It’s only good when it’s funny. It only is non-offensive when it’s dope. Had you said that shit and it not been dope, it would’ve been a problem. But you so cold and courageous that you did it and got away with it.
The Chicago MC claims the Scribble Jam incident ended with him winning the battle, but Eminem ultimately winning the war.
In other Slim Shady news, his new documentary, STANS, will be premiering at the SXSW London Screen Festival on June 2.
The project is named after his 2000 hit track, Stan, and is produced by Shady Films. A directorial project of Steven Leckart, STANS explores the psychology behind the multilayered relationship between an artist and the fans. Eminem’s collaborators, along with some of his most devoted followers, are featured prominently in the documentary.
