Music executive Russell Simmons is the latest celebrity to attempt to collect a lucrative settlement over alleged defamation. As he has targeted the film giant, HBO, over their documentary “Off The Record.”
Russell Simmons Demanding ‘Millions’ Over Controversial Doc
The controversial 2020 documentary chronicles the famed executive’s sexual assault allegations. Featuring testimonies from accusers such as Drew Dixon, a former A&R at Def Jam who came forward after decades of silence.
However, Simmons is alleging that the film is a product of misinformation, and he wants to be properly compensated for the damage that has been done to his reputation.
“HBO, you owe me 100s of millions of dollars,” Simmons wrote in a recent post on Threads (via WBLS.com). “I need my bread, for all my charities and family members, specifically my children.”
He also went on to describe the contents of the film as “horrific” and “malicious.”
“You know what you did was horrific and malicious,” he added, accusing the media giant of intentionally spreading misinformation. “You can’t hide. Ask Oprah or anyone who’s ever looked at the evidence.”
Film executive Oprah Winfrey was initially scheduled to be an executive producer on the project. However, she withdrew her role in the film, citing creative differences and inconsistencies in the accuser, Drew Dixon’s story.
Russell has also been dealing with recent family drama. Amid his recent claims that his ex-wife, Kimora Lee Simmons, is the reason that he is estranged from his children, she did not hold back with her response.
She noted that their kids are now grown enough to make their own decisions. So she couldn’t possibly be the reason why he is estranged from them. She also implored him to answer his accusers.
“My ‘girls’ are GROWN WOMEN,” Kimora wrote in a recent Instagram story. “You know these are lies. Why are you typing from thousands of miles away in a non-extradition country? Go negotiate and answer your Accusers.”
